Setup URL Forwarding

URL Forwarding, also known as URL Redirect, will redirect your domain name to another Web address. For example, when someone browses to www.yourchurchhome.org, it automatically redirects to a Web address like www.forministry.com/quickhelp/ .

NOTE: You must be using our DNS servers to use this service.

Setup URL Forwarding by following these steps:
  1. Click on the Login button on the GetYourChurchDomain.com home page and login using your account information.

  2. Click on the "domain names" > "my domains" in the left navigation menu.

  3. Click on the domain name that you wish to configure, listed on the MY DOMAINS screen.

  4. Scroll down to the section titled "DNS Settings", and click on the CONFIGURE button.

  5. For the Hostname entries of "www" and "@ (none), select "URL Redirect" under the Record Type column, and enter the desired Web address to forward to under the Address column.

  6. Click on the SAVE CHANGES button.

  7. You've now setup URL Forwarding for your domain name. Go to your domain name and see it in action!

What is URL Forwarding?

When the client types in your domain name they are redirected to the web server that your page is hosted on. The only drawback of this method is as the person is looking around the site the URL that is displayed by the browser is the one of the actual web page, not your domain name.

This may be useful for:
  • forwarding additional domain names to promote an event or program, e.g. www.specialchristmas.com redirects to www.yourchurchhome.org/christmas/
  • forwarding additional domain names to prevent cybersquatters from misuse, e.g. www.yourchurchhome.com redirects to www.yourchurchhome.org
  • when your Web hosting provider is not able to directly resolve your domain name
